About the institution

Under the University of Pennsylvania Health System, Penn Radiation Oncology is dedicated to a three-part mission of excellence in patient care, basic and translational research, and education of the next generation of oncology professionals. Penn Radiation Oncology is one of the most comprehensive radiation oncology programs in the world. The outstanding faculty and staff, combined with Penn’s extensive collection of advanced technology, gives patients access to nearly every treatment option available for their cancer. The broad range of radiation treatments available include Proton Therapy, intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT), high-dose rate (HDR) and low-dose rate brachytherapy, partial breast irradiation, stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS), and Gamma Knife radiation. With the Abramson Cancer Center of the University of Pennsylvania, Penn Radiation Oncology provides patient care at the Ruth and Raymond Perelman Center for Advanced Medicine (PCAM), six major hospitals, and nine community-based sites.

About the course

Since 2014, the Department of Radiation Oncology at Penn Medicine has been offering education to new proton therapy professionals and trained thousands around the world, both in person and through online modules. Our clinical certificate courses are designed for radiation oncologists, medical physicists, radiation therapists, dosimetrists, and administrators.

Web-Based Proton Administrative Series: Designed for individuals who are considering developing a proton center
Web-Based Proton Clinical Course: Comprehensive role-based curriculum teaching the basics for delivering proton therapy safely and effectively. Certificate provided upon completion. Closed captions provided in English and Spanish.
Principles of Proton Therapy 1-Week Course: Comprehensive curriculum with room for customization to provide a strong foundation in the clinical rationale and workflow behind safe, precise, and effective proton therapy delivery. Five-day on-site training at Penn Medicine with access to web-based modules as a prerequisite. Certificate of participation awarded upon completion.
